Ramona Design Review Board approved the plans for Ramona’s new library last Thursday with the exception of signage and the exterior color, which will be further discussed and approved at a later date.
The architects for the library presented their plans at the board’s Aug. 27 meeting, highlighting several changes resulting from comments made at July’s meeting. One of the features of the Southwest and Tuscan-style library building that had been debated was the color of the stucco. Last month board members said the proposed orange hue was too intense in color, although one of the architects, Manuel Oncina of Manuel Oncina Architects Inc., said it provided contrast to the Tuscan-style stone that had been selected. The models will show proportions and the footprint of the building and how it relates to the Main and 13th streets site.
The library is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New libraries for Alpine, Fallbrook and Ramona took major steps forward yesterday.
County supervisors approved funding for an $11.6 million Ramona library and a $10.3 million Fallbrook branch. The county will cover the bulk of the costs. Residents groups have separately raised more than $1 million for each project.
The Ramona library would be 19,400 square feet, three times larger than the current facility. The Fallbrook library would be 18,500 square feet, more than twice the size of the current site. Each would have community rooms and computer centers that don't exist today.
The county is seeking proposals from developers for the projects, which are expected to be completed by early 2010.
The Alpine branch is in a much earlier stage. Supervisors approved about $510,000 to buy a property occupied by the Alpine Community Center where the current one-room library could expand. –C.G. |
